Creator Experience
Social influencers needed a workflow that didn't fight them. I rebuilt four Creator-facing systems from the ground up: onboarding, social integrations, content management and training. Customer research, UX thinking and a fresh visual language turned an archaic experience into one cohesive system.
A note on confidentiality
This work is pre-launch and partly under NDA. The case study below describes the methodology, scope, and AI-integrated workflow. Specific UI, system designs, and live work examples are available to walk through in interviews or under NDA.
The Challenge
Creators had become relatively ignored. Onboarding, training, social integrations and content management were a patchwork of band-aids on legacy systems. Creators developed workarounds to avoid the CMS altogether. Information was difficult to find. Asset management was minimal at best.
Creators deserved a complete redesign across every surface they touched. From the moment they signed up, through how they were trained, to how they reached their audiences across platforms and how they created and managed posts. Four systems rebuilt from the ground up, with regular reviews by Leadership for approval at every milestone.
Approach
User-centric design, based on several conversations with groups of Creators. Define each want and need. Salvage what worked. Redux the rest. Review best-in-class competitor offerings and make it better. Better yet, partner with Engineering from the start and work together to build highly flexible foundations from the beginning, forgoing the need for band-aids in the future.
End result was a simplified UI that surfaced relevant information, paired with a filter and sorting system that enabled Creators to quickly find what they were looking for and get out of their way. Editing, scheduling, and archiving content now only a click away.
The Work
I worked across the Creator experience at Amazon. The scope ran wide. Onboarding flows. Social integrations. Content management. Internal training. Each workstream covered information architecture, interaction patterns, a new visual language with components and easily-parsed documentation. Four surfaces stitched into one experience for the Creator on the other end.
I’d love to walk you through it when we chat.
Reflections
A complete re-think of a content management system is a grand endeavor. It takes time to create an environment that new and well-seasoned customers can both easily navigate and thrive within. It requires buy-in from a plethora of different groups with their own unique business needs. Management is as mandatory as design itself.
